Dafter a weekend of interregno, the MotoGP World Championship is back this week (11 to 13 september), with the GP de San Marino. It is, as usual, at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy.

It should be noted that this is a step that includes the Rookies Cup, where there is a portuguese in action – Afonso Almeida. But we'll be right there.

Marc Marquez near the top dreams of the title

The season has not been easy for the champion in title, Marc Marquez. He's had an absence from injury and Ducati doesn't have the supremacy of other years. Still, the spanish – who in the previous round won his fourth victory of the year – is totally in the fight for the title.

On arrival in Misano, Marc Márquez is second to 19 points of the leader Jorge Martín (Aprilia) – that still only added a victory, despite being a constant presence in the top five and podiums. Third is Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia), five points from Márquez – breaking after an impetuous start with three consecutive victories.

Bezzecchi, as well as Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46/Ducati), are two of the pilots who will pursue a home-run victory in the San Marino GP, such as Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati). There are more Italians in the platoon, but they don't have the same arguments. Note that for Franco Morbidelli (VR46/Ducati), it will be the last MotoGP Grand Prix in Italian soil.

Other men who may be candidates for the top seats include Ai Ogura, Raúl Fernández (Trackhouse/Aprilia), Pedro Acosta (KTM) – who in Aragon matched his best result of the year to being second – or even the duo of Gresini (Alex Márquez and Fermín Aldeguer).

A Portuguese on track

Since Miguel Oliveira left MotoGP for the Superbike World Cup at the end of 2025, there is no Portuguese in the queen category. But there's one in the paddock: Afonso Almeida, which competes in the Rookies Cup.

This is the gateway to the international ladder to the world championships. Opening night this year, the portuguese is at 25th and second to last position. It even started with a 14th place worth it two pointsBut since then he has never been able to score. He will try to do it again in Misano, in that which is the penultimate stage of the season – and which arrives after two months of interregno.

As usual, there will be two races. The leader is Beñat Fernández, who can already celebrate the title (it has more 17 points than Ryota Ogiwara).
