Shere people were arrested on Wednesday for being suspected of belonging to a human trafficking network that was dedicated to the sale of minors in the Spanish regions of Badajoz, Montijo and Linares. Among them is a mother of six children, two of whom were found in Portugal, with the help of the Republican National Guard (GNR).

Two of the victims, aged one and three, are in charge of the Portuguese authorities, while two others are under the supervision of the Junta da Extremadura. The remaining minors are with family and acquaintances, according to El Mundo.

The leader of the government of that autonomous community, María Teresa Macías, pointed out that the location of the minors, who would have been sold in Portugal, was one of the main objectives of the investigation.

“ The most important thing is that the work of the State Security Forces and Corps, with the collaboration of the Republican National Guard, allowed the rapid location of the two children ", said.

The mother of the six children will have given birth at home to prevent their children from being officially registered and thus being able to sell them. According to the authorities, there are at least four cases of minors who have been sold to other families in exchange for amounts for drug use.

The arrests took place in the framework of the Luna operation, which started in April, following an alert from the Portuguese Judiciary Police (PJ), in which data were requested on the mother and father of a child under a year who could have been sold in Portugal.

The investigators located the baby's mother, who lived in Zafra, Badajoz. This is how they found out that the woman had other children, all minors: four lived in the localities of Linares and Badajoz with family members and in reception centers, while a sixth child, who would also have been sold, was under the protection of the Portuguese authorities.

On Wednesday, two police operations were carried out at the same time, from which not only the arrests resulted, but also the seizure of documents – in Spanish and Portuguese – mobile phones, a hunting rifle stolen in Almendralejo, another rifle with the serial number erased, a large machete and ammunition of different calibers.

In Badajoz two women and one man were arrested, while in Montijo the main suspect and his current companion were arrested. In Linares, a man was arrested, with whom one of the minors resides.

The woman and three other people are still in custody, the remaining two suspects being released.

María Teresa Macías indicated that the possibility of the woman being forced by the group to “have children to sell them” is, in addition to other issues, being “object of investigation”. In this line, he called for “prudence” until the steps were completed.
