A Netflix already has a number of video games adaptations between the exclusive series of its streaming service and, it seems, are on the way to another proposal and also two movies.
These projects are being developed in collaboration with Sega, with the adaptations to be originated in two well-known franchises and also in a game still to be released.
The first of these adaptations will be a series based on “Sonic the Hedgehog” directed at children, with Netflix noticing that the series “will have a little attitude” – something that will not surprise anyone who knows Sega’s mascot.
The second project will be a Crazy Taxi movie. Remember that these games were especially popular in the early 2000s and should coincide with the arrival of a new franchise game – “Crazy Taxi: World Tour” – with scheduled release for 2027.
It is known that the argument of this film based on “Crazy Taxi” is being developed by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, the duo responsible for the latest version of the 2025 comedy classic “The Naked Gun”. Of course it is, the film will be a comedy and will feature producers Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara (the same as the films “Sonic”).
Finally, the third joint project between Netflix and Sega will be a film based on "Stranger Than Heaven". Underline that this game developed by the studio RGG Studio (“Yakuza”) will not be released until January 2027.
In the description shared by Netflix it is explained that the film “will take place at the beginning of the 20th century in Japan” and will follow “a foreigner who ascends from a poor stranger to a dreaded member of the Yakuza and finally to a tycoon of entertainment”.
None of these projects yet have a release date, but are the next video game adaptations in a service that has already bet on similar projects based on known games. Among them are already “Castlevania”, “Dragon’s Dogma”, “The Witcher”, “Devil May Cry”, “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners”, “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch” and “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft”.
