“ A signature of this partnership, which results from a year of joint work, took place during the REPMUS 26 (Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping with Maritime Unmanned Systems), one of the main international exercises of experimentation of unmanned systems and emerging technologies applied to the maritime domain ", says NOS, in a statement.

During this exercise, “NOS integrated its 5G capabilities with Telefónica, demonstrating in an operational context the interoperability capacity between different telecommunications infrastructures and their potential to support new services and applications” in demanding Defense and Security scenarios.

“ This collaboration is particularly relevant in the current European context, in which the new Defense and Security scenario requires digital infrastructure capable of operating in a coordinated way across borders, ensuring safe, resilient and interoperable communications”, says João Ricardo Moreira, administrator of NOS Comunicações, quoted in a statement.

Javier López Gutiérrez, director of defense and security at Telefónica Spain, points out that this agreement contributes to “the strengthening of European technological sovereignty and was made possible by the support and collaboration of the Spanish Navy and the Portuguese Navy, which provided an operational environment to test and evaluate the application of these technologies”.

This work “allows us to advance in the development of solutions that are increasingly tailored to the real needs of defence users, both in the European Union and in NATO,” says the person responsible, also mentioned in a statement.

The partnership between NOS and Telefónica “will allow further collaboration in areas such as network interoperability, secure communications, edge computing, artificial intelligence [IA], advanced 5G and new connectivity architectures, as well as their integration with command and control systems, autonomous platforms and other emerging technologies”, according to operators.

NOS and Telefónica will also enhance their experience and capabilities to link with different open innovation ecosystems dedicated to the development of dual-use technologies.
