Dafter three days of a “free” and “historical” reopening, the artistic director, Pedro Penim, highlighted, in an interview with Lusa, three shows of the complete program for the new season.

Without wanting to belittle any of the shows that will come to the stage of the two theatre rooms in Rossio, Pedro Penim calls, however, attention to the premiere of “The Last Public Telephone in Lisbon”, on the 23rd, in the Studio Room.

It is a piece by Keli Freitas that is “a community project made for and with residents of Lisbon who come from other countries”.

A spectacle with “a migrant community that is not only a way to hear their stories and to be able to share what their experience is and their importance in the new human geography of the city, but, at the same time, to bring them closer to D. Maria”, stressed the artistic director, in an interview with the agency Lusa.

“ Because it seems to us of elementary justice that the programming can also account for the diversity of the Lisbon population in this case ", stressed Pedro Penim, adding that with the reopening of the theater "there are no steps behind" after over closed years they have traveled more than 100 Portuguese municipalities.

In this sense, Pedro Penim intends to continue the experience of the “National Odyssey”, making D. Maria II “a theater increasingly democratic and closer to all populations, to everyone living in the national territory”.

Still on the schedule, the artistic director of the theater highlighted “the privileged space” of the programming of the Studio Room, asking the public to be very attentive to everything that will happen in that room.

“The supplicants”, by Sara Barros Leitão, from 11 to 13 December, “When I saw the sea”, a show by Lebanese Ali Chahrour integrated into the Alkantara Festival, on 27 and 28 November, and “Al-Sirah Al-Hilaliyyah”, the new creation of Palestinians Bashar Murkus and Khulood Basel of Khashabi Theatre, on 3 and 4 December, were the shows to be presented in the new season in the Garrett Room highlighted by Pedro Penim.

On December 8th and 9th, Palestinian actors perform at the Teatro do Bairro Alto (TBA) with the performance show “Yes, Daddy”, in a partnership between D. Maria II, TBA and the Teatro Municipal do Porto, where, on November 28th and 29th, the duo of Palestinians of the Khulood Basel – Khashabi Theatre Palestine will present “The epic of the Bani Hilal”.

“Sumário: Auto da barca do inferno”, a spectacle for schools on the scene from October 8 to 31, in the Studio Room, the presentation of “Dester”, by the Theatre of the Dress, from October 23 to 25, at the Noble Hall of the Theatre, “Less of Single Dog & André Godinho”, from November 13 to 15, in the Garrett Room, “The bald singer”, in a performance of Beatriz Batarda, on stage in the Studio Room from November 26 to December 13 are also included in the proposals for the new season of D. Maria II.

From the performances to be presented in the two rooms of the renewed D. Maria II are still pieces such as “Memorial”, “Foco”, “Cinderella” and “Romance”, all from Lígia Soares, Barber Shop Chronicles”, a text by the poet and playwright born in Nigeria Inua Ellams, or “People, places and things”, a text by Duncan MacMillan with performance by Sara Carinhas.

A creation of Zia Soares, “Isin Makees”, “Habitar”, André Amálio and Tereza Havlíčková, by the Teatro Europa, and “Blur”, creation of Craig Quintero and Phoebe Greenberg are also included in the proposals of the theater, whose complete programming is available on its site.
