O portuguese Nuno Borges qualified today for the final qualifying round of the Masters 1,000 of Paris, achieving the twist before the French tennis player Adrian Mannarino to win in three sets.
In the first round of the “qualifying” of the last Masters 1,000 of the season, the national number one beat the 73rd ranked ATP ranking by 4-6, 6-1 and 7-5, in a duel that lasted two hours and 15 minutes.
Less than 24 hours after being ‘runned’ in the final rooms of the Basel tournament by the German Jan-Lennard Struff, Nuno Borges returned to the court with a false entry, being broken right in the first game of the meeting.
Although it leveled to 3-3, the Mayan, 53rd of the world ranking, allowed a new ‘break’ in the ninth game, an opportunity that Adrian Mannarino did not waste, closing the first partial with 6-4.
The national number one was not shaken and had an irreprehensible performance on the second set – it did not face any ‘break’ –, breaking the French service twice to impose itself by clear 6-1, in just over half an hour.
After a balanced start of the final partial, Borges advanced in the fifth game, but Mannarino returned the ‘break’ in the eighth.
With 5-5 on the marker, only the third ‘break-point’ Portuguese managed to ‘steal’ the service to the local tennis player, closing the meeting in the next game.
In the last qualifying round for the master 1,000 of Paris, Portuguese will face Slovak Alex Molcan (80th), who today drove away German Daniel Altmaier (60th), with partials of 6-4 and 7-6 (7-1).
Borges is the only Portuguese who can reach the painting of singulars in the French capital, since this morning Jaime Faria was eliminated in the first round of the ‘qualy’ by Australian Rinky Hijikata.
