McLaren held the Formula One GP and Lando Norris won a race for the first time as world champion. It was this Sunday (July 26,) at the Hungaroring.

Oscar Piastri led in the beginning

The pole position was obtained by the British, but in turn 2 was overtaken by McLaren's colleague Oscar Piastri. And the Australian controlled the events until the pit stops, managing to defend the position. Third, Max Verstappen (Red Bull/Ford) was placed in front of the men of Ferrari – Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, who opted for a different strategy starting with soft tires and not with the averages like the other front riders.

After the first pit stops, Oscar Piastri maintained command, with Lando Norris pressing – despite having made a small mistake on the 29th lap. But the second change of tires, on lap 34, went wrong to Piastri: returned to the track stuck in traffic. The lost time was fatal in his aspirations, with Lando Norris winning the position.

The British still had to overcome Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) to get to the command once and for all, with the Italian being unable to avenge a strategy of only one tire change. Oscar Piastri placed himself second, until to 14 laps of the end a problem in the gearbox motivated abandonment.

At that time, lando Norris already had a considerable advantage that did not waste. So he won for the first time since last year he became world champion.

Antonelli recovered to the podium

Andrea Kimi Antonelli it started from seventh after being penalized in three positions on the starting grid. The championship leader ran a consistent race in an attempt to run only one tire change.

Recovered to third position – after a stop at Lewis Hamilton's pits during the virtual safety car motivated by Oscar Piastri's abandonment. At that time, Max Verstappen chose to stay on track – which allowed the Dutch to finish second position at 15,080 seconds from Lando Norris. He also took advantage of the virtual safety car to switch tires, guarding against possible attacks by rivals with cooler rubbers in the final phase.

Antonelli and Hamilton still offered the fans a fight fought for third position, but the British would be penalized in five seconds for exceeding the maximum speed on the boxing track – falling to fifth, also behind Charles Leclerc. Isack Hadjar (Red Bull/Ford) was sixth and, after a disastrous start, George Russell (Mercedes) was no more than seventh.

Racing Bulls Overcame Audi in Exciting Fighting

At the end of the pointy places, racing Bulls was the only team out of the “four big” with two drivers in points: Liam Lawson in eighth and Arvid Lindblad in tenth.

Among them was Nico Hülkenberg, who offered Audi two more points (the first two in German this year). Gabriel Bortoleto (Audi) cut the goal by 11.

This quartet starred in an interesting battle for the last spotable places in the final phase of the race, from which Racing Bulls took the best to isolate itself in the fifth position of the World Builders – its rival Alpine was zero in the Hungarian GP.

Aston Martin recovers with update

Aston Martin introduced an up-to-date single-place in Hungaroring and showed up closer to scoring: Lance Stroll finished 13th and Fernando Alonso was 14th, including in front of a man from Alpine (Franco Colapinto) and both Haas and Williams pilots.

Even worse was Sunday afternoon for Cadillac, who saw Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas withdraw prematurely with brakes problems from their single-places.

How are the championships?

After 11 out of the 23 scheduled rounds, formula 1 season is almost halfway through with Andrea Kimi Antonelli strengthening leadership: sum now 219 points, 50 more than Lewis Hamilton.

This means that the first two are separated by the equivalent of the score of two normal Grand Prixes. Third is George Russell, nine points from Lewis Hamilton and 22 more than Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari Monegasque saw Lando Norris stay only ten points away in fifth.

The following is Max Verstappen, with Oscar Piastri in seventh and Isack Hadjar in eighth. Liam Lawson overcame Pierre Gasly to reach ninth and put himself as “the best of the second platoon”. Further down, with his first two points, Nico Hülkenberg surpassed Fernando Alonso, reached 18th and left only three pilots at zeroLance Stroll (Aston Martin) and the duo of Cadillac, Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas.

At the World Builders World Cup, mercedes has already threatened 379 points, away from the Ferrari that is now 72. McLaren is third to 87 points from Maranello's rival, with Red Bull fourth to 43 from the championship champion.

The “best of others” is now Racing Bulls in fifthAfter overtaking Alpine by one point. Haas continues seventh in front of the Audi (which is now above Williams). Aston Martin and still zeros Cadillac close the table.

What's next?

Formula 1 now enters its summer break, which lasts about a month. Return at the end of the week from 21 to 23 August with the Dutch GP in Zandvoort – who will say his farewell from the calendar.

Formula 1 returns to Portugal this week with McLaren and champion Norris

This week, Formula 1 comes to Portugal, with McLaren and champion Lando Norris testing on the Portimão circuit. However, it will not be with current single places – even because the rules do not allow.
