O PS today warned of the “increasing degradation” of the provision of hospital health care in the district of Portalegre and the “recurrent embarrassments” in the specialty of Orthopedics in the Local Health Unit (ULS) of Alto Alentejo.
The Portalegre District Federation of PS “denounces the increasing degradation of hospital health care provision in the district, warning of the recurrent constraints in the functioning of the Orthopedics specialty” in the ULS of Alto Alentejo, can be read in the statement released today by that structure.
According to the socialists, since August 1st and until the day 02 of this month, that is, this Monday, there were recorded “constraints in the operation of Orthopedics in 31 of the 94 days analyzed, which represents 32.98% of the period”.
This means constraints in “approximately one in three days” in this specialty, stressed the PS, considering these numbers “particularly worrying”.
Orthopedics “was a specialty that worked normally” at Dr. José Maria Grande Hospital in Portalegre, integrated into that ULS, argued the district federation, demanding “clarifications and concrete measures to ensure the continuity and quality of health care provided to the population”.
In the statement, the PS recalled that this situation was already addressed in parliament by the socialist deputy Luís Moreira Testa, elected by the circle of Portalegre, during a hearing by the Minister of Health.
In his speech, he pointed out that the constraints “are not limited to the summer season or to the specialties of Gynecology and Obstetrics”.
Luís Moreira Testa also questioned the governor about the “measures planned to reverse this situation” and “recover normality” in the functioning of hospital services.
The Portalegre District Federation of the PS also considered “unacceptable” that the district population is confronted with the successive absence of doctors.
And he claimed “concrete responses and solutions” to ensure all the health care that the populations need, “regardless of the municipality” where they live.
Lusa contacted the administration of the ULS of Alto Alentejo to obtain a reaction to the socialist communiqué, but it refused to make statements.
