O PCP today accused the PSD/CDS-PP Government of aggravating problems, including access to housing, with a “violent policy” and argued that it is urgent to break with “this arrogant, provocative and disastrous direction”.
This position was taken by the Secretary-General of the CFP, Paulo Raimundo, at the end of the debate on the proposal for a State Budget for 2027 in general, in the Assembly of the Republic.
“The Government, this policy and this composition of the Assembly of the Republic do not serve and are a factor in aggravating national problems. And that is also why the CFP will have to vote against this State Budget ", said Paulo Raimundo.
As regards housing, the Secretary-General of the CFP called for “an appeal” to accompany his party’s proposals: “Consecrate 1% of GDP on average per year for public housing, ensure stability in lease contracts, force banking to lower spreads and put an end to bank commissions that should never have existed.”.
“Guarantee land use to meet collective needs, including housing. Face speculation, banking, real estate funds and big owners. These are options of courage ", defended.
Paulo Raimundo accused the Government of responding to the “just demand for a better life” with “a violent policy that further exacerbates the difficulties” and again warned of any attempts to “limit the right of manifestation”.
“Following the hammering that is ‘the strike is a right, as long as no one does it’, now comes the latest batonada that is ‘the demonstration is a right as long as there are no demonstrators’,” he commented.
The Secretary-General of the CFP criticized the Government’s reaction to “the just and broad indignation expressed in different forms” and considered that “it is even offensive to talk about increasing the income that very few feel, because the accounts do not pay themselves with statistics”.
“ It seems that, beyond a heartburn that persists, you have not learnt the fundamental lessons from the defeat of your labour package. It is because, however large the majorities are, however unfavorable the correlation of forces, nothing is able to stop the organized force, determined and in unity of workers, populations and youth”, he added.
