A parliamentary leader of the CFP said today not to see any sign from the government of a change of position in housing policies and insisted that the bill of lease “has no patch possible”.

Paula Santos spoke to journalists in the Assembly of the Republic after meeting, together with the leader Bruno Dias, with the Ministers of State and Finance, the Presidency, Parliamentary Affairs and Infrastructure and Housing, during the meetings convened by the Prime Minister this week.

“We have seen no sign from the government that it is turning away from the options it has been implementing and the path it has been pursuing,” she lamented, arguing that executive policies have contributed to aggravating the housing crisis, which has generated several protests in recent weeks.

The parliamentary leader of the CFP insisted that the bill amending the urban lease regime should fall, considering that “there is no patching or possible solution”.

“ What we have seen is that the government maintains its line, its choice, its programme on housing issues and that it has had the results that are in sight, that is, today the houses are more expensive, the rents are more expensive and there are more difficulties in access to housing. It has already been seen that this path does not serve, that this path does not solve and that this path is part of the problem, so we need to break with this path, we really need an alternative as the CFP has been presenting ", sustained.

In the lease, the CFP considers it a priority to provide stability to contracts, setting a duration of at least ten years, and a limit on rents in new contracts to prevent significant increases from one moment to another.

As for the non-compliances by the tenants, in the view of the communists, “they should be treated in the proper places, which are the courts”, manifesting themselves against evictions.

For those with housing credit, Paula Santos defended a reduction in spreads and elimination of bank commissions.

Paula Santos defended “a serious investment in the increase in public housing”, proposing an investment on average of 1% of GDP per year of this type of housing, and a worsening of IMI for return fires, encouraging the placing of these houses on the market.

The CFP also advocated support for housing cooperatives and a 35% rate on the turnover of real estate funds, penalizing “whom speculation”.

This week, the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, called Ajuda and PS for meetings in São Bento to address proposals in the area of housing, and the other parties of the Assembly of the Republic for meetings with ministers.

The announcement appeared after weeks of protests for housing in Lisbon and Porto, with camps marked by police charges that generated several wounded.

Housing: Free charges Government of insensitivity and intransigence

The Livre accused the government of insensitivity and intransigence in housing matters, highlighting the lack of openness to withdraw the proposed amendment to the rent law.
