Ua man who threatened and planned to attack the Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, was arrested, announced today the Home Minister.
According to the news agency Associated Press, Minister Marcin Kierwinski gave no details about the identity of the man or the type of attack planned.
The Polish police said this morning that they had information on possible assassination attempts by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, who motivated an emergency meeting of the authorities.
The security services, police and representatives of the Ministry of the Interior met this morning at the Anti-Terrorist Center of the Internal Security Agency (ABW), to discuss the situation, Karolina Galecka, spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior, announced.
Poland has been on high alert following a series of school stabbings this week, as well as fears of a possible Russian hybrid attack that weakens Western support for Ukraine in its war against the large-scale invasion of Moscow.
“ We take this matter extremely seriously,” said Jacek Dobrzynski, spokesperson for the Polish information services ministry.
The spokesman indicated that the authorities considered there to be a “high probability” that the threats would be met.
Dobrzynski, who spoke after the emergency meeting, revealed that information about the threat came first to the state protection service, which then passed it on to the police.
No further information on the alleged plan.
Adam Szlapka, spokesperson for the Polish Government, told the Polish press that Tusk learned of the threat this morning, indicating that even if the authorities receive threats occasionally, this was “exceptionally worrying.”.
Dobrzynski stated that Polish services were receiving an increasing number of threats every month.
Three attacks on schools in the Mazovia province in central Poland took place in four days this week, causing one dead and many injured, including children.
In September, Tusk warned of possible hybrid intensified attacks from Russia on the eastern flank of NATO (North Atlantic Alliance).
The Polish leader, former President of the European Council, accused Russia of planning drone or rocket attacks on European countries supporting Ukraine, including Poland, with the aim of weakening Western support for Kiev's fight against the Russian invasion.
Moscow denied any such plans.
