“ Sand appear nuclear weapons pointed at us in this territory [Lithuania], consequently the country will be in the sight of our nuclear weapons”, said the spokesman of the Russian Presidency (Kremlin), Dmitri Peskov, in statements to Russian public television.
Peskov also noted that this Lithuania decision was “something predictable”.
“ This is a worsening in the escalation of tensions, because if you install nuclear weapons in your territory, they will be targeted at someone. Clearly, these weapons will not be pointed at the West. They will be pointed east, that is, against us”, said Peskov.
On Thursday, the President of the Lithuanian Parliament, Juozas Olekas, declared that the country body plans to approve a constitutional amendment shortly to eliminate the ban on the installation of weapons of mass destruction in Lithuanian territory.
“ The planned legislative timetables and deadlines will probably require us to extend the autumn part-session slightly so that we can approve this specific article of the Constitution,” Olekas said at a meeting of the leaders of the parliamentary groups, according to the LRT.lt portal.
According to the same body, the autumn session is likely to be extended until January 13, 2027.
Previously, Olekas had argued that the article of the Constitution that will be changed no longer represents “the geopolitical realities”.
