The memory division recorded “a new record quarter thanks to the good management of its product portfolio, with emphasis on AI-related products, despite capacity limitations,” Samsung stressed in a statement.
“The strong dynamics of server demand has led to an increase in market prices in all sectors,” said the South Korean giant.
The state-of-the-art memory chips manufactured, among others, by Samsung benefit from increasing global demand, being essential for data centers dedicated to AI. A real source of revenue for this chip manufacturer and his rivals, despite concerns about a possible overestimation of the industry.
Despite the results, the company's shares today have fallen on a stock exchange, in a context of persistent concerns about a possible overvaluation of the sector.
Samsung Electronics is the world's largest manufacturer of memory chips. The state-of-the-art chips that the company and the few rivals produce are currently the target of great demand, as they are needed for data centers dedicated to AI in full development.
The company’s shares were now falling more than 5% on Seoul’s stock exchange, with analysts also pointing out the fact that the South Korean giant failed to reach market forecasts regarding the operational profit of the semiconductor division, which disappointed investors, according to Bloomberg.
Samsung’s financial director, Park Soon-cheol, said today in a teleconference to expect “an unprecedented growth in memory demand in 2027.” But “we anticipate difficulties in increasing short-term production through new capacities,” he also warned.
The Samsung Electronics group also provides, as announced in August, a stock buyback program, which could reach 74 billion euros, the largest in South Korea's history.
Samsung, South Korean rival SK hynix and US giant Micron dominate the HBM world market (High Bandwidth Memory, or very high bandwidth memory), an advanced generation of components used in cutting-edge semiconductors, notably for artificial intelligence applications and data centers.
The strong demand, particularly for components of this type, is reflected in prices, which are rising, which supports Samsung's growth.
