“H42 people on board the ship. Twelve were safely removed and five injured were hospitalized”, but “all 25 missing were found dead,” said Xinhua news agency.
The ship was docked for repair at the Beihai Shipbuilding Co. shipyard at the port of Qingdao, an important navigation center on the northeast coast of China.
A photo released by the Xinhua news agency identified the ship as “Ocean Melody”, which sails under Liberian flag, according to the VesselFinder tracking portal.
The fire started at 11:00 (04:00 in Lisbon) and was extinguished three hours later.
Chinese President Xi Jinping issued “important instructions” for urgent rescue operations of missing persons on the ship, Xinhua said.
