Table classifies property
O municipality of Tábua, within the district of Coimbra, opened a classification process of the Old House of the House of Midões as a property of municipal interest, according to a determination published today in Diário da República.
The historical property, located in Pelourinho Square of the locality of Midões, worked as House of the Chamber of that old county, extinct on the last day of the year 1853, and is linked to the figure of João Brandão, the last president of the municipality, refers to the work “Freguesia de Midões – Um História Milenar”, edited in 2017 by the local parish board.
The decision to classify the building, taken by the Municipality of Tábua, dates from 26 March and was followed by an addition, approved in May, related to the patrimonial valuation of the property, “associated to the future creation of an interpretative center dedicated to the figure of João Brandão”, reads in the respective camararia minutes.
At the same time, the mayor of Tábua, Ricardo Cruz, said that the municipality “aims to frame this intervention in applications for funding, particularly in the areas of tourism and the patronage”.
In the announcement of the Diário da República, consulted by the agency Lusa, the municipality of Tábua does not provide for the delimitation of a special zone of protection of the property under classification, because there already exists in that area an administrative servitude of the cultural heritage in force, specifically a general protection zone of the Pelourinho de Midões, located in the wide area where the Old House of the Chamber is located.
The prior hearing of those interested in the process of classification as a property of municipal interest “will take the form of public consultation”, which will take place from today, for the period of 30 working days.
