Chowever, after a short time, bananas were too ripe and brownish.
It's impossible to avoid the process of maturing, but there are tricks to slow it down. Nutritionist Jana Marques revealed to Globo some tips that work. One of them was tested by Lifestyle to Minute.
Tips for bananas to last longer
1. Hang them
This was one of the tricks that went viral on social media. According to the nutritionist, it really works! This is because when hanging, bananas have less contact with surfaces, other fruits or objects, which helps slow down ripening.
This tip also prevents the bananas from getting crushed, a factor that favors the appearance of stains and early rotting.
“ When the banana is on the surface, on top of some closet, on the table, it tends to mature faster, because it will release the very natural gas produced by the fruit. However, hanging it prevents this gas from being released and delays the maturation ", noted the nutritionist.
Refrigerator
Refrigeration is one of the most traditional methods of storing bananas, especially in summer. The nutritionist says that cooling this fruit helps, but “dark the bark”, making it look like it is damaged, even though it is not.
Aluminium foil
Another known method is to wrap the tip of the banana with aluminium foil, something that also works.
“ When we wrap the ‘cabinho’ with aluminium foil or adhesive film, we reduce the release of natural gas from the banana itself, which helps to delay the ripening. This method is also useful to conserve bananas that are already more mature”, says the expert.
Cut end
This method follows the same logic as the previous one. If you do not have aluminium foil or adhesive film at home, then you can cut the end of the bananas – called peduncle – leaving only half an inch of space.
O Lifestyle to Minute you tested this tip and we can confirm: it works. Bananas that previously ended in pancakes or shakes, since they were not consumed in good time, lasted longer (2/3 days on average), even in contact with other fruits in the basket.
