Madrid, capital of Spain, will soon have an autonomous taxi service (robotaxis) – in a partnership that brings together Uber à WeRide, still involving Avomo.
The goal is start commercial operations later this year, after completion of the necessary preparations and obtained the operational and regulatory requirements.
WeRide and Uber's plan is also to reach 11 more cities by 2030, and Madrid is the fourth of 15. In London, Uber recently launched transport in self-controlled vehicles in the context of collaboration with Wayve.
Why, in Portugal entered into force this summer the regulatory framework for testing autonomous cars on public roads – paving the way for this possibility.
O Minute Auto/Minute News asked Uber if there are plans to do tests in the country with a view to the possible future implementation of a service.
The communication department of the mobility company has explained to us in a note that begins by saying: “ Uber is closely following the regulatory evolution of autonomous mobility in the different markets where it is present”.
Having said that, Uber does not have Portugal in its plans for now: “At this moment, we do not have any predictions regarding testing or implementation of autonomous vehicles in Portugal. We will continue to monitor developments in the country’s regulatory environment and assess any opportunities that may arise in the future.”.
