“A government that prefers violence to dialogue is a failed government”

Carolina Deslandes joined the many artists who have worked in demonstrations for housing. The singer was present on Wednesday night, October 28th, in Lisbon, and before beginning to sing made a point of speaking. 

“A government that prefers violence to dialogue is a bankrupt government, it is a corrupt government, it is a government that wants to make us believe, that can silence us and that does not want any kind of conversation and any kind of solution,” he said.

“ The distraction maneuvers continue to happen. They want to make this fight a party struggle, they want to make this fight a fight about what is dressed in the demonstrations, which color is the hair of the people who are in the demonstrations ", he added. 

“ We all have a face, which is the face of the people and we're all here fighting for the same thing. All fighting for dignity, for conditions, for having a roof. Not just for us, but for the children, for the elderly who are being evicted to another hotel, for some more shit”, continued. 

“ Everyone here is part of the fight and part of the country I believe in and the future I believe in. And I want to thank you very, very, very much for all the effort and all the fighting you're doing. I don't know what it's like to be here and watch the police go ahead and be in a cordon and not walk back and look at the fight as the most important thing. I do not know if I would have your courage ", highlighted later, referring to the action of PSP in the early hours of last Sunday, which left several protesters injured and others arrested. 

“And for that I thank you, I thank you on behalf of everyone. Everyone who can't be here like you. From the bottom of my heart. You guys are on the side of the story that I want to tell my kids. Thank you so much for this”, he praised.

“I’m going to sing some songs. If you know how to sing with us, if you don't know, have fun, because I think we need to be together, breathing, singing a little, singing in one voice. If this has brought you a little encouragement, peace and remember that love also exists here”, he said later. 

“It’s the fourth time I’m here and I don’t leave here once without being moved,” she said before she started singing.
