Ctoday, 200 people have been sitting on the ground in the square of the Restauradores, in the center of Lisbon, in protest against police violence.

The vigil was marked by the Mothers movement by the Campada, which emerged following the camped by housing and police interventions to disperse the protesters in Porto and Lisbon, and intended to warn that “with violence nothing is done”, as explained to the agency Lusa one of the organizing mothers.

With some posters and little tents on paper on the floor with the phrase “Teto for everyone”, the participants were accompanied by a choir, composed of members of various choir groups.

The group, consisting in particular of families, remained orderly in the square and was accompanied to a distance by the police, being visible six vehicles.

The current protests against the housing crisis began in Porto on October 10 and have expanded to Lisbon, but have also motivated concentrations in other cities.

The intervention of the PSP to disperse the campgrounds and remove the tents in Rossio, in Lisbon, and in Praça D. João I, in Porto, culminated in police charges that caused dozens of wounded and the opening of a process of the Inspector General of the Internal Administration (IGAI) to the police action.

The Mothers for the Camp emerged following the police charges, formed mainly by mothers and relatives of young protesters, seeking to ensure respect for the fundamental right to peaceful protest and demonstration.

The protesters demand, among other things, the reversal of the new rental law, a stop to housing purchase by real estate funds and “truely accessible” roofs to income.
