A University of Aveiro (UA) saw accredited by the Agency for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES) its new doctoral program in medicine, lasting three years, announced today source of the academy.
According to a UA note, this decision, which recognizes the scientific, academic and institutional quality of the proposal, consolidates the path that the institution has developed in advanced education, biomedical research and health innovation, and arises two years after the entry into operation of the integrated master's degree in medicine.
Addressed to physicians and professionals with high differentiation in the field of medicine, the new course aims to train “scientific clinicians” capable of designing and developing transnational, clinical and epidemiological research projects oriented to real challenges of clinical practice and population health.
One of the differentiating features of the program, according to the academy, is its direct link to the Local Health Units (ULS) partners — Between Douro and Vouga, Gaia Espinho and the Aveiro Region — integrated into the Clinical Academic Center Egas Moniz Health Alliance.
“ Since the first year, the PhD students will be challenged to propose solutions to concrete health problems identified in the ULS, through a curricular unit dedicated to research applied to real challenges, with the aim of generating research projects with direct impact on the care provided to populations ", says the same note.
The AU further clarifies that the study plan, with a strong active student-centered teaching component, aims to consolidate competencies in robust methodologies for medical research, foster innovative research projects, collaborations of health institutions with the academy and with national and international research initiatives.
To form leaders of lines of research capable of capturing funding and integrating the scientific method and multidisciplinary in solving the real challenges of the National Health Service are other objectives.
