O film “Vindima”, by director Luís Galvão Teles, will have world premiere in November at the Film Festival of Mar del Plata, in Buenos Aires, revealed the producer Fado Filmes.
The feature film, adapted from a novel by Miguel Torga and with Brazilian co-production, integrates the international competition of Mar del Plata, with the presence of director and actress Laura Dutra.
Inspired by Miguel Torga’s first and only novel, published in 1945, the film depicts a vintage season in the Douro in the 1950s, following a group of workers, poor, who “fight for survival under the yoke of a brutal boss.”.
“ In a land where silence and oppression prevails, forbidden desires will destroy the collective order and push bosses and workers into tragedy and inevitable change ", says the producer in the synopsis.
“Vindima” has interpretations of Maria de Medeiros, Miguel Borges, José Contessa, Joana Pialgata, Laura Dutra, Ricardo Pereira, Filomena Giante, Marco d’Almeida, Sandra Faliro, Diogo Infante and Ruy de Carvalho, among others.
After Mar del Plata, “Vindima” is part of the Tribeca Festival Lisbon program in December.
According to the Argentine festival, in the international competition there is still the Portuguese-Brazilian coproduction “The French Teacher”, by Ricardo Alves Jr, and starring Brazilian actress Grace Passô, in the role of a woman who faces religious fanaticism when returning to the neighborhood where she grew up.
The film is produced by Karõ Filmes by João Salaviza-Renée Nader Messora.
The 41st edition of the Festival Mar del Plata will run from 5 to 15 November and on the jury of the short films competition is programmer Miguel Dias, from the festival Curtas Vila do Conde.
