O russian president Vladimir Putin announced this Saturday a three-day ceasefire with Ukraine. The suspension of the attacks will begin at midnight tonight.
According to the Russian press, who quotes Dmitry Peskov's spokesman, Putin ordered that no attack be carried out from midnight on Saturday.
“The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, ordered the suspension of the attacks on Kyiv for three days from midnight today. This is due to the preparation and conduct of the North American meetings in Kyiv”Dmitry Peskov said.
The spokesman also confirmed that Putin will meet with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
It is recalled that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had already stated that Ukraine would not carry out any attacks during the visit of the US delegation and asked Russia to do the same.
An American delegation arrived this Saturday in Moscow to start talks to end the war in Ukraine.
Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were welcomed by Presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev, a strong ally of Putin.
After the meeting with the Russian president, the US envoys will travel to Kyiv where they will continue negotiations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
On Friday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, said that the Witkoffs and Kashner “take a proposal to end the war,” stressing that he ended “eight wars.”.
Trump, who spoke to journalists in the Oval Office, acknowledged that he hoped that the war in Ukraine would be easier to resolve than other conflicts, but said that Putin and Zelensky “hate deeply,” which, he said, makes peace negotiations difficult.
The trip has been under negotiation for several weeks, according to American sources quoted by The New York Times, who have detailed that Washington wants Ukraine and Russia to temporarily suspend their attacks while US envoys are in the region.
The New York newspaper Times note that it is unclear whether Witkoff and Kushner will submit a new peace proposal or whether they will press to close the outstanding issues of the previous one, including who will control the Donbass, territory in eastern Ukraine partially occupied by Russian forces.
