Von der Leyen could have worn “military camouflage,” says João Oliveira

Communist MEP João Oliveira today criticized what he described as “apology of militarism” in the speech of the President of the European Commission on the State of the Union, ironic that Ursula Von der Leyen could wear a military camouflage.

Para the mep, the speech was marked by themes of “policy of confrontation and war and favoring the billion dollar business” of those who “accumulate profits with the production of arms and death”.

According to João Oliveira, the leader of the community executive has despised “completely problems and difficulties that peoples are facing at the moment, a little throughout the European Union”, exemplifying with the increase in fuel and electricity.

“ The President of the European Commission has no prospect of having a European Union euro to support peoples in coping with these difficulties, but at the same time she boasts that over the last five years she has increased spending on military expenditure by 80%,” she criticised journalists at the headquarters of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.

According to the MEP, it is difficult to build a future other than war when “this policy to promote militarism” is being done.

For this reason, João Oliveira argues that “to put the response to the social and economic problems of the peoples of the European Union as the first priority and to ensure, on a political and diplomatic level, a policy that coincides with the interests of the peoples”.

A path that should, in your opinion, effectively seek the end of the conflict in Ukraine.

“ We have discussed at this plenary session a report that says that Ukraine will be the testing ground for the new weapons that will be produced by the military industrial complex within the European Union. I ask: is the European Union's perspective to contribute to the end of the conflict or to extend the conflict?", he questioned, reiterating that it is crucial to break up with this policy.

In her speech, the President of the Commission promised more support to Ukraine, strengthening humanitarian aid in winter, and the development, together with Kyiv, of an alternative anti-missile system to that of the US and consolidating sanctions on Russia.
