A new York stock market closed today at a very low rate, dragged by the devaluations of technological securities, with investors anticipating the decline in the data center movement after the overwhelming Democratic victory in the mid-terms in the USA.

The result of the session indicates that the Nasdaq technological index fell 5.52%, its greatest fall in year and a half (since April 2025) and that it puts it in the so-called correction phase, an expression that designates a loss higher than 10% of the level of its last record, in this case, established in October.

The other more emblematic indices in the stock market also recorded sharp losses, which cancelled the gains achieved the day before, with the extended S&P500 falling 4.35% and the selective Dow Jones Industrial Average falling 3.44%.

“ We thought we had left the crisis after the market was restored the day after the elections, but suddenly there was a real ‘bloodbath’ on Wall Street,” commented Jose Torres, of Interactive Brokers.

Investors are considering the results of intermediates as a brake on the development of artificial intelligence (IA), as several elected Democrats opposed during the campaign to the construction of data centres in their electoral circles, for the negative effects on people and territories.

And the inhabitants of dozens of US cities approved on Tuesday restrictions on or prohibitions even of data centers, whose multiplication implies massive energy needs.

The technological conglomerates specialized in semiconductors, I had already strongly retreated on Wednesday, aggravated their losses today, a trend exemplified by Broadcom (-10.15%), Micron (-17.77%), AMD (-17.39%) and Intel (-10.39%).

Nvidia, the world's second largest stock market capitalization, dropped 8.91%, corresponding to a devaluation of $400 billion.

The so-called Magnificent Seven – expression that designates the heavyweights of technology: Nvidia, Meta, Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, Tesla – had the joint stock market capitalization today reduced by $800 billion. This amount is higher than the value of Sweden's gross domestic product.

“ As long as there is a doubt about the amounts of investment in data centres, investors react particularly violently,” described Art Hogan of B. Riley Wealth Management in statements to AFP.

In fact, in recent years, Wall Street's glaring scholarship progression is due to enthusiasm for the AI.

But today the loss has been widespread, also encompassing traditional values.

“ Investors are very sensitive to this weakness of quotations and expect volatility to be reduced to return to the penalized values to win this fall,” said Patrick O’Hare of Briefing. with, when questioned by AFP.

The scholarship square also suffered from the recovery of oil prices, the day after a strong fall, the analysts point out.

After the euphoria of the elections, investors returned to prudence, given the lack of concrete progress in the Middle East.

This aversion to risk takes advantage of the federal debt, because its securities are considered refuge values.

In these 10-year bonds, income – which varies from price to price – eased from 4.898% on the eve to 4.84%.

The AI problems may eclipse the official employment report in October, expected on Friday.

“ If the figures confirm the soundness of economic activity, they can cause a good recovery movement in the markets,” predicted Patrick O’Hare.

The expected unemployment rate is 4.2%, which corresponds to its stabilisation.

Wall Street suffers losses for fear of restrictions on the AI sector

The main U.S. indices today followed with losses, pressed by the quotes linked to the artificial intelligence sector in view of the fears that Democrats in Congress might impose restrictions on the sector.
