Francesco Farioli gave the FC Porto squad a Thursday off, but William Gomes made a point of going to the Olival, along with Vasco Sousa, to speed up recovery. However, their injuries will keep both away from Gil Vicente's visit.

Jogar, train and rest... but not for everyone. Francesco Farioli presented the main team of FC Porto with a day off, on Thursday, after the defeat suffered before the PSV, on the third day of the league phase of the Champions League, by 0-1, and the training that followed, but there were those who made a point of ‘drilling the protocol’.

It was the case of William Gomes, who, according to the newspaper Bola went to the Jorge Costa Sports Training and Training Center, in Olival, in an attempt to accelerate the recovery process to grade 2 sprain on the right ankle, contracted on October 10, in the victory achieved in the visit to the Maritime, by 1-2.

The signs are positive, but it adds the same publication, at the moment, everything points out that the international sub-20 Brazilian will stay away from the list of summoned Francesco Farioli for the game of the ninth round of the I Liga, before Gil Vicente, who has initial whistle scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

To be confirmed, this will be the third consecutive meeting in which the Italian coach will not be able to count on the player of only 20 years old, in the image of what happened against Real Betis (desaire, by 3-2) and PSV. In the first, his place was delivered to Borja Sainz, and in the second, to Oskar Pietuszewski.

In the Olival, Vasco Sousa, who has not played since 14 December 2025, when he contracted a severe fracture in the right leg of the leg, during the heavy defeat suffered by Moreirense (club in which he acted as a loan) in the Stadium Commending Joaquim de Almeida Freitas, against Benfica, by 0-4.

The situation is more delicate than that of William Gomes, so it is not possible that the ‘green light’ to return to the lawns will occur in the nearer future, despite the efforts that the average of 23 years of age has been carrying out to overcome the physical problems that ‘paint him’.

What's next for FC Porto?

After the trip to the Stadium City of Barcelos, FC Porto will return to the Dragon Stadium, where it will compete three consecutive games, against Academica de Viseu (on Wednesday, for the final quarter of the League Cup), Estoril (on October 31, for the tenth day of the I League) and Napoli (on November 4, for the third round of the Champions League).

There will be a journey to the D. Afonso Henriques Stadium, where the Vitória SC (once again for the national championship) will take place, before the second stop for international competitions of the new sports season of 2026/27, which will last practically until the end of the month.

It remains to be seen now whether William Gomes will recover in time to help Portuguese champions in title, until then, or whether his clinical status will inspire other types of care.
