Dat the summit in India, the President indicated that the BRICS should “oppose to violations of other countries’ sovereignty and interference in their internal affairs, and participate constructively in resolving the most pressing issues,” according to Xinhua.

The Chinese President also stated that the war in the Middle East, triggered by the US and Israeli attacks against Iran at the end of February, does not serve the “common interests”.

“ As the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region continues to evolve, the war taking place there has caused heavy losses to the people of the whole region,” said the Chinese President in New Delhi, at a time when the Indian capital hosts a BRICS summit, in which, among others, Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian participates. “It does not serve the common interests of the international community,” he added.

Xi Jinping also called on the 11 BRICS member countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Iran) to “reject all forms of protectionism” less than two weeks before the planned visit to Washington, an important commercial rival of Beijing.

“ We must support the multilateral trading system, which has the World Trade Organisation at its centre, and reject all forms of protectionism,” said the Chinese President.
