ANDm communiqué, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCJD) explains that 45 applications were evaluated for the three categories for competition: 11 candidates for the Career Award, 15 for the Work of the Year Award and 19 for the Innovation in Comics Award.

António Jorge Gonçalves was distinguished by the trajectory “permanently innovative and eclectic, which never stagnated or accommodated a type of trait”.

The jury, composed of Sara Figueiredo Costa, Pedro Cleto and Sara Ludovico, highlighted the “experimental work of the author with colors, materials and narrative languages, as well as the consistent way he has reflected on the limits and possibilities of the BD”.

The Work of the Year Award was awarded to “Sleeping between Cadaveres”, by Luís Moreira Gonçalves and Felipe Parucci, an edition of Zigurate described by the jury as “a very relevant testimony about the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil, particularly in the Amazonian space”, built from a personal and critical record that does not reduce characters to mere media.

The Innovation in Band Award Designed was attributed to “Rumo à Eclipse”, by Ana Matilde Sousa, Ana Simões, André Nóvoa and Hugo Soares, a work edited by Chili Com Carne and described by the jury as “a role play game ‘play’ from a preexisting comic book”, which expands the possibilities of the medium without simplifying it, but taking advantage of its narrative logics.

Luís Moreira Gonçalves and Felipe Parucci, as well as the team formed by Ana Matilde Sousa, Ana Simões, André Nóvoa and Hugo Soares, are the winners of the first edition of the National Award for Comics (PNBD).

“ The distinguished authors demonstrate the diversity, quality and innovation capacity of the Portuguese comic book. The National Award for Comics recognizes this talent and contributes to a greater visibility of the national artistic creation, inside and outside Portugal ", says in the text, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Margarida Balseiro Lopes.

Each of the categories was awarded a pecuniary value of 10 thousand euros, and the Work of the Year Award includes additional support of 1,500 euros for the visit of the winners to the Angoulême International Comic Festival in France.

The awards are scheduled for the 18th of October, National Day of the Portuguese Comics, under the Amadora BD Festival.

The National Comics Award, announced in October 2025, is an initiative of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, managed by the Directorate-General of the Book, Archives and Libraries (DGLAB), which aims to “value and promote artistic and literary creation in the field of Portuguese comics”.
