Sand you're about to go on vacation, there's a lot of things you should do before you let go of the door to your house and one of them is turn off some electrical plugs.

Security experts have revealed to Good Housekeeping the devices that should be turned off from the socket, not only for security reasons, but also to save some euros on the light bill.

1. Loaders

Lithium-ion batteries can be easily found, these being the ones that give power to electric bicycles, tools, computers, among other devices. Although they are very useful, they can overheat quickly if damaged or connected to the outlet for a long time.

So under no circumstances should you leave these chargers attached to the socket when you leave the house.

Although they do not pose the same risk, it is advised to turn off cell phone chargers, even with a low electric current may overload the internal components, leading to failures.

2. Bench appliances

Small appliances such as toasters, electric ovens and kettles are very useful. However, these can generate high temperatures and, consequently, an overload of energy during an electrical failure, for example.

3. Videogames

According to a survey by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the expected power consumption of electronic devices represents 5 to 10% of a house’s total electricity consumption.

Video games are the main responsible for this consumption. It would be a good idea to activate energy saving settings on PlayStation or Xbox, for example. But if you're traveling, turn them off.

4. Hair appliances

If you have a hair model at home, you'll probably have left it on once in your life. Therefore, it is recommended to turn these devices off after each use. It is also recommended to turn off the hair dryers, as defective cables can cause fire.

The motto is: better to prevent than to remedy!

If you're on vacation, leave a glass of water next to the kitchen sink
