Temperatures such as those that have been felt in recent days can affect a good night's sleep due to heat. However, experts point out that some minor changes can help keep the room fresh at night. There they are.
1. Dispose of hidden heat sources
One of the ways to reduce room temperature is to turn off the electronic devices you are not using, says Kevin Pennington, owner of Lancashire Air Conditioning.
“ Common electronic devices, such as large televisions, computers, monitors and even cell phone chargers, function as small heaters”, he stresses.
Although leaving only the mobile phone to be loaded is no longer a problem, the same does not apply when there are several devices at the same time, as Dereck Granados of the Universal Technical Institute points out.
“ Although a single device may not make much difference on its own, several electronic devices operating simultaneously in a small room can considerably increase the temperature,” says Granados.
“ Disconnecting or turning off non-use electronic devices can help reduce unnecessary heat accumulation, improve comfort and reduce power consumption.”.
2. Close and cover the windows
Opening a window on a hot day may seem like a good idea, because the point is that between a fresh air, but in many cases this is counterproductive, highlights Ryan Osterkamp, owner of Quality Comfort Home Services.
The ideal will be to open the windows at night, when the temperature is milder, and leave them closed during the day.
It's important to check the windows to see if there are any spaces where the hot air might be entering.
3. Bet on blackout curtains
Buy some blackout curtains and keep them closed during the day, especially in divisions that receive direct sunlight.
Pennington recommends buying curtains in light tones, because the dark ones end up absorbing heat generating the opposite effect.
4. Maximize the air current
Maintaining good air circulation in the room throughout the day can help keep the temperature pleasant. “In houses with few return air entrances, keeping the doors of the rooms open can help the air circulate more freely and improve the general comfort,” notes Granados. “However, if each room has its own return air intake, keeping the door closed can help maintain a more stable temperature in the environment.”.
5. Put the fans strategically
Use the fans only when you are home, recommends Osterkamp. “Top and table wines do not cool the air temperature, but give the feeling of freshness”.
If you have several windows open in your room you can point the fan towards them so that the hot air is expelled out.
6. Place your bed in the right place
A little trick that makes a big difference is to put the bed away from the wall that gets the afternoon sun, according to Pennington.
“The brick absorbs the heat during the day and releases it at night, so it’s like sleeping next to a radiator.”.
