O prime Minister of Slovenia today congratulated his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he attributed the “victory” in the legislative elections, although the bloc led by his party, the Likud, lost the majority in Parliament.

It is therefore still unknown whether Netanyahu will be able to form a government and the country is still waiting for the final results.

“Congratulations to Netanyahu and Likud for their victory. It is not easy to fight on two fronts and come out victorious,” said Janez Jansa on her social networks, before congratulating the one she described as “the only democratic state” in the Middle East for the high rate of participation in these elections.

“ We value our dialogue and the long friendship that unites our countries. We sincerely want peace and security for the people of Israel and a better future for the whole region,” added the Slovenian ultra-conservative leader.

Netanyahu's formation profiled as the most voted party, with 26 seats, with 90% of the votes cast, although the 53 seats his block could get stay away from the 61s it needs to form government.

Meanwhile, the coalition led by Gadi Eisenkot would achieve 48 deputies, so it would need to make agreements with the Arab parties, the United List and the Raam, which had an historic result with 12 and 7 representatives respectively.

In this context, Eisenkot maintained “a long day of meetings, conversations and preparations to fulfill the wishes of voters,” he said on his social networks.

“ Many more long days of work await us, but we remain focused on the important task entrusted to us: bringing change to Israel and establishing a Zionist government committed to universal service (military),” added the former Chief of Staff of Israel.

In the same message, Eisenkot argued that “the people expressed a vote of censure to the government on October 7,” in an allusion to the attacks carried out by Hamas and other Palestinian militias over three years ago, triggering the Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip.

In this sense, he said that the Israelis rejected with their vote a “Government characterized by the evasion of military service and the ‘block of evasors’ as a whole, a block that reached its minimum in two decades”, referring to the ultra-orthodox parties, which refused the compulsory military service for students of yeshiva.

“ I feel the full weight of responsibility and trust placed on me by hundreds of thousands of citizens who believe in the State of Israel and Zionism,” Eisenkot added, before thanking those who bet on his party, Yashar, who described it as a “truely national formation that constitutes a dignified and state-based alternative to the government”.

“ We will meet the great challenge ahead. We will act and triumph. I give you my word”, he concluded.
