O Bayern Munich, two-time champion and trophy holder, today reached the eighth finals of the German Football Cup by eliminating the Magdeburg (6-1), in the second division, with a goal of the Portuguese David Daiber.
In Bavaria, French Michael Olise (10 and 50 minutes), the second of Penalti, Moroccan Ismael Saberi (21), Canadian Alphonso Davies (70), Nathaniel Brown (73) and Daiber (90+3) noted for the hosts, while Polish Mateusz Zukowski made the only goal of visitors (15).
David Daiber, 19 years old, was born in Luxembourg and is international under-20 Portuguese, having scored for the first time the third game with Bayern's main team, and first this season, after two challenges in 2025/26.
The medium was used as an alternate, unlike the English spearhead Harry Kane, honored on the lawn with a guard of honor by his teammates before the meeting, two days after winning the Golden Ball, which distinguished the best football player of last season.
The two German champions returned to the bank by English deputy Aaron Danks, in the face of the absence of Belgian coach Vincent Kompany, who was hospitalized for five days due to meningitis, and was discharged from hospital today, according to the club's sports director, Max Eberl.
In addition to Bayern, the record holder of achievements (21) and the Bundesliga's first rank, nine other ‘eighths’ had access to the first cousins, cases of Borussia Dortmund, Friburg, Bayer Leverkusen, Leipzig, Augsburg, Cologne, Eintracht Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Borussia Mönchengladbach.
In the other matches today, Stuttgart, four times winner of the Cup and finalist defeated in 2025/26, won out to Paderborn (1-0), also from the main echelon, with Captain Deniz Undav guaranteed the victory of the Swabians, who did not have the Portuguese Tiago Tomás, by injury.
With Luso Afonso Moreira the titular, Bayer Leverkusen, victorious in two editions, recovered from two outnumbered attempts and operated the home twist on the ‘secondary’ Nuremberg (5-2), holder of four trophies.
Two goals from the newly entered Japanese Keisuke Goto, the latter already in time of compensation, also allowed Friburgo to reverse the marker in the Wolfsburg (3-2) reception, the second division and once winner.
From the outside were the cousins Hoffenheim and Schalke 04, with five achievements in the Cup, being surprised at their visits to Holstein Kiel (4-3, after 1-1 at the end of regulatory time and extension) and Dynamo Dresden (2-0), both of the Bundesliga 2.
In the next phase will also be the ‘secondary’ Hertha Berlin, who imposed herself outside the Jeddeloh (2–0), the last resistant of the fourth echelon, and Kaiserslautern, with two trophies and triumphant in the visit to Hannover (2–0), with one.
Bochum and Darmstadt are the other representatives of the second division in the ‘eighths’ of the 84th edition of the German Cup, which are held on 1 and 2 December, without the primary divisions Werder Bremen, Mainz, Elversberg, Hoffenheim, Hamburg, Paderborn, Schalke 04 and Union Berlin.
