Mistakes you make in the gym
Know what a personal trainer never does when he goes to the gym.
1- Skip heating
“ Many people like to start training without trying too hard. They arrive, take the heaviest weight they find and start training, or climb to the treadmill and increase speed to the maximum. Increasing heart rate is important, but adequate warming is fundamental”, says Denise Chakoian.
2- Do not monopolize equipment
“ Whether you sit on a bench without using it or claiming various equipment, I am very aware of the importance of crafting space. Gyms are community environments, and consideration for this shared space is fundamental,” Mallory Fox says.
3- They don't judge on giving advice without being asked
“ I would never judge anyone by the way he trains, the weights he lifts or the point he finds himself in. They all start somewhere and the gym must be a cozy space. As a certified personal trainer, I see how trust impacts consistency, and negative energy or judgment can discourage people from appearing.”
4- Don't ignore the pain
“ It's very common to see people trying to get back to the gym very early, while they're still recovering or dealing with pain. Rarely is the result expected. Insisting on an injury can delay your progress in weeks or even months,” says David J. Sautter.
5- They don't compare to anyone
“ It is important to focus on your own progress, because what works for someone else may not work for you. Comparing with others usually leads to frustration rather than improvement.”
6- They don't work without a plan
“ I never practice without a plan. If you do not know what you are trying to achieve, it is difficult to measure progress.”
7- Don't forget to clean or return the equipment
“ I would never leave my weights scattered or the banks sweaty. Keep everything back, clean it up and start over. You must have basic respect for the people who are training around you. Out of consideration to employees and members, I return the equipment as soon as I finish using them and clean everything when it ends,” said Kat Pasle-Green.
8- They don't talk on the phone
“It is noisy and bothers many people. We don’t need to hear their dramas or business meetings,” Kelsey Holgate says.
