O space was little to receive all who watched the conversation, between the radio broadcaster Ana Markl and the writer Valter Hugo Mother, that premiered today the Literary Stage, the great novelty in the venue of the NOS Alive festival, which takes place until Saturday at the Algés Maritime Walk in Oeiras.

At the end of the conversation, the writer, who has been “a group of many festivals,” told Lusa that “bringing the book where people are, is always worth it.”.

“ I believe a lot in the book, in the book as an instrument of empowerment, empowerment of thought and as a production of humanity. Therefore, where people are we produce humanity”, he said.

Valter Hugo Mother, with 30 years of literary career, edited in June “The Century of Imbeciles” and shared that “it has been very gratifying in the presentations” of the work “finding very crowded spaces”.

“ I would never know what to expect from a music festival, but it's been that way and it's really nice to see that people still care about what they write, what they think. I am very honored, very grateful, very happy to be here”, he said.

The chairs were all occupied and many ended up watching a conversation in which the music, and the author's relationship with it, was one of the main themes.

The author shared, for example, that Australian singer Nick Cave, one of the highlights today on the main stage with his The Bad Seeds, is one of his “great heroes in music for many years.” “And I think it’s today maybe the great musical performer of the world, I don’t leave here without seeing it at the beginning,” Lusa said.

Several people took advantage to buy books by the author of “The Spanish Making Machine” and “The son of a thousand men”, who held an autograph session on site.

Nilson Perboni was one of the people who watched the conversation and in the end waited in line with two books in hand, one for him and one for a friend.

Finding in a music festival a stage dedicated to literature was something you found “very interesting”.

“There is a very strong connection between music and literature, two worlds that talk a lot. Many artists bring many influences of literature, and similarly music influences the writers a lot”, he said.

With a ticket for the three days of the festival, he admits to stop at the Literary Stage on Friday and Saturday.

Today he wants to watch the concerts of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and the Twenty One Pilots, the band that led Sara Afonso to choose to be at the festival today.

“ Being here today was a gift to my boyfriend, but it turned out to be a gift to me when I saw he opened the Literary Stage, a combination of both worlds. I love music and I love reading”, Lusa told.

Sara Afonso shared that she had just read it “The Spanish Making Machine” when I heard that Valter Hugo Mom was gonna be on the NOS Alive poster.

“ I felt it was an incredible coincidence and should continue, because Culture is made by music, by books ", he said.

At first he thought he'd bring “The Spanish making machine” for the festival, but since he did not know if he could access the author, he bought another book to be autographed.

Also a reader of Valter Hugo Mãe, Eduarda Leal took the opportunity to add another book to the collection.

As for the Literary Stage, he found an “extraordinary idea”, which he “came to add to the festival more culture”.

“ It is interesting that people also identify with the authors who come here. Also for the younger ones, it is interesting to come to a festival and find a place with books and meetings with authors. To get used to reading, because we know they read little, unfortunately. This experience is to be praised. I really like it. It was a great surprise”, she shared with Lusa.

There were names of book authors on the poster “it was another reason” to decide to be at the festival. “I was very happy to be with the authors more directly,” he said.

The musical poster does not highlight anyone in particular, but “the experience in general, the various stages”, especially artists who have never heard, since it likes “the experience of discovering”, especially ‘the smallest ones’.

More than 120 artists, bands and authors perform between today and Saturday at Alive, whose poster includes Twenty One Pilots, Nick Cave, Foo Fighters and Buraka Som Sistema.

The performances are distributed across eight stages.
