The Minister of Economics and Territorial Cohesion, Castro Almeida, said today that the support announced by the Government “never” will be sufficient to cope with the increase in the cost of living, at a time when Portugal is affected by several ‘wars’.

“ It's never enough. No country with balanced accounts has enough money to support a war situation. That's the situation we're in. The country is not at war, but is suffering consequences of the war”, considered Castro Almeida today.
The minister, who spoke on the margins of a visit to the Porto Colosseum, had been asked whether the descent of the IRS up to the 6th echelon and the bonus for pensioners, announced on Tuesday, would be enough to help mitigate the increase in life costs.
“ In a year that was particularly demanding, where the government admitted not to have any budget balance, what the finance minister is saying is that we would have a budget balance that allows us to allocate another EUR 800 million of public expenditure and still continue with the positive accounts,” he added.
The governor also responded to the criticisms of PS Secretary-General José Luís Carneiro, who accused the government of profiting from the fuel crisis, ensuring that the state “is not winning the war”, explaining that what they receive more in VAT is being compensated “decreased the value of the ISP”.
