Os driving assistance systems they were designed to support the human being, making cars safer. But it is necessary to make proper use so that they are a real asset.
Only not everyone takes advantage of technology the right way. A study by AXA Deutschland in Germany concluded that almost half of young people between 18 and 24 years of age (48 percent) you've already used these systems to focus on other things while driving – especially men (63%).
The prevalence is higher among those living in urban areas, with 22 percent of respondents having taken such attitudes – against eight percent people living in rural areas.
The same data indicates that about one in five men participating in the study (19 percent) has already recognized using assistance systems to divert attention from driving (on tasks such as eating or even consulting your phone). Among women, only seven percent admitted it.
Systems avoid incidents?
Driver support systems want to be a safety asset. And among the respondents, 41 percent of residents in urban areas have shown that assistance systems have helped prevent potential danger on at least one occasion (34 percent in rural areas).
If 77 percent of germans believe that systems have a positive effect on road safety, the same inquiry reveals a concern: 44 percent are of the opinion that, with the assistance available, the drivers end up “feeling too close” to their valences, being less attentive the road and the driving task.
More than 2,000 respondents
The study, carried out in the context of AXA Switzerland Mobility Day, was carried out from July 24 to 27 through online interviews between members of the YouGov panel. A total of 2,032 people participated in a representative sample of the German population of the age group.
