Uthe wife died in Austria after being sexually assaulted and abused by her husband while she was “extremely drunk”, according to prosecutors, in a case that the local press is comparing to the French press Gisèle Pelicot.
The man will have confessed to sexually abusing his wife, including the night of the victim's death.
Magistrates of the Austrian city of Wels told CNN International that the victim was “defensive” and that they are investigating the possibility that other men may have abused him, eventually for some payment.
The Austrian press nicknamed the case Pelicot 2.0, comparing it to Gisèle Pelicot, whose ex-husband, Dominique Pelicot, was convicted in 2024 for drugging the woman, who was raped not only by herself, but also by dozens of strangers in the couple's residence in Mazan (France), between 2011 and 2020.
Nevertheless, Austrian justice still does not confirm the alleged wider “network of violations”, explaining that this possibility remains under investigation.
The victim was found badly injured and bleeding at his home in Marchtrenk, near Wels, Austria, on June 26, according to the prosecution. Paramedics found death at the scene and an autopsy was requested.
According to CNN, the husband initially claimed that the woman’s death had been an “accident” during sexual intercourse. However, the victim's injuries indicated signs of violence.
Although death was first reported this summer, only now have the details of the investigation come to light.
Both the husband, 51, and another man of the same age, are now in custody, but only the first is directly linked to the death of the Austrian.
The husband, who is being investigated on suspicion of abuse of defenceless or disabled persons resulting in death, refused to comment on the allegations. You risk a 20-year prison sentence or pre-trial arrest.
