A Câmara de Castelo Branco today unanimously approved a motion expressing concern for the insufficient investment provided in the State Budget for the region, namely for CI 31 and Central Administrative Court Center.

The document presented by the mayor of Castelo Branco, socialist Leopoldo Rodrigues, also mentions concern about the lack of financial expression for the Alvito dam and investments in the Local Health Unit (ULS) and the local Polytechnic University.

In this context, the councilors call on the Government to enroll in the State Budget for 2027 (OE2027) “the allocation and the timetable necessary for the implementation of the IC 31, in a motorway profile and without tolls, with a view to the completion of the work in the shortest time” and “to ensure the necessary funds for the final installation of the Central Administrative Court Centre in Castelo Branco”.

They also call for a financial allocation for the construction of the Alvito dam on the Ocreza River to be associated and to ensure the necessary investment in the Castelo Branco ULS and to strengthen the funds of the Polytechnic University.

In addition, the municipal executive decided to appeal to parliamentary groups and deputies elected by the Castelo Branco district of all parties, so that, in the discussion in the specialty, they present and approve the necessary amendments for these objectives.

The motion also reaffirms the availability of the municipality of Castelo Branco to continue to collaborate with the government and the competent authorities, “with a view to the rapid implementation of these investments”.

During the public session, the municipality also unanimously approved a motion, tabled by the councilman of PSD Jorge Pio, to include in the new Municipal Support Regulation for the Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS), which is under preparation, the possibility of allocating support to investments aimed at strengthening security, prevention, energy autonomy and response capacity of these institutions to emergencies.

In this sense, the document proposes that, among the eligible investments, “the purchase and installation of emergency generators should be explicitly contemplated, in order to ensure the continuity of the operation of essential services and equipment in the event of interruption of electricity supply”.

It also calls for a minimum municipal contribution of 60% of the investment eligible for the purchase and installation of these equipment, in accordance with the criteria and ceilings to be laid down in the Regulation and for priority to be given to institutions with residential responses and to receive particularly vulnerable or dependent persons, or who have no alternative energy supply solution.

For the Social-Democratic Councilman, this proposal provides an opportunity to “clearly, transparently and comprehensively define” municipal support for institutions that perform an essential social function daily in the county.
