Na joint communiqué, the Ministries of Economics and Territorial Cohesion and Infrastructures and Housing stressed that the target of 26,000 houses, defined under the PRR, through the 1st Law - Programa de Apoio à Acesso à Habitação, “more than fulfilled, will be exceeded”, with the delivery, by the end of August, of more than 28,000 public dwellings located throughout the country.
In addition to these, another 12,000 houses “are in advanced work, it is expected that by December 2026 it will be possible to achieve a total of 40,000 houses”, the two ministries added.
According to the executive, the achievement of this goal was possible through “a set of measures provided for in the Construct Portugal program, to unlock and accelerate processes”, and the “close collaboration between the Government, the Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU) and the municipalities”.
To meet the target, the funds for the 1st Law were increased by EUR 2,800 million (ME), through the State Budget, which added up to the 1,400 ME of the PRR funds, “which proved insufficient”, added the two ministries.
In the statement, they added that, to these housing responses within the scope of the RRP, around 12,000 housing for accessible rental will be added by 2030 and the implementation of the Local Housing Strategies, in which the municipalities identified the need for about 133,000 housing fires.
According to the Government, by 2030 around nine billion euro (ME) will be mobilised for public housing.
