A CGTP-IN will convene a “great national demonstration” in Lisbon for November 21, announced today the Secretary-General, promising to intensify actions and appealing to the workers that November be “a great month of struggle”.

“The struggle has to continue to grow,” said CGTP’s Secretary-General Tiago Oliveira, in a press conference after the central trade union had gathered its National Council, calling on workers to make “of November a great month of action and struggle”.

Among the actions announced today is “a great national demonstration” to be held in Lisbon on 21 November, as well as a concentration in front of the Assembly of the Republic on 24 November, which coincides with the day of the overall final vote of the proposed State Budget for 2027 (OE2027).

“ Let us make a great journey to the struggle on 21 November and a great moment of affirmation against all the injustices we feel in our daily lives”, appealed Tiago Oliveira.

The Secretary-General criticized the Government for failing to respond to the “concrete problems of the life of those who work”, from the increase in the cost of living, to investment in the National Health Service, education or housing.

“ We're all entitled to a roof. We all have a right to a house. We all have a right to a dignified life and, therefore, what we say is that we have a government that is weak with the strong and strong with those who have the least and need the most”, he said.

Asking “a new direction for the country”, Tiago Oliveira recalled that the State Budget is one of the “largest tools the government has for implementing the political option” and insisted that the document is “deeply negative for the workers”.

“This State Budget will only be approved if the government has someone’s hand. That means that on the 24th [November] it is not only the government that is in question, it is all those who will support with their position a State Budget that is deeply penalizing for the country and for the workers ", warned.

The Secretary-General of CGTP called on workers to join the actions convened by the trade union central and recalled the role they played in rejecting the proposed law on changes to labour law.

“ We continue to believe that it is with the workers that we will defeat this direction of policy that is being followed by this government,” he said.
