O Arrivo/Açores expressed concern today about the impact of the “successive increases” of the gas price in the Azores, when a further increase is expected from Sunday.

The political force argues that “the worsening cost of living is putting more and more families in the face of serious financial difficulties”.

“ The increase in the price of butane gas in the Azores, scheduled for November 1, is causing concern for the direct impact on family budgets. A 13-pound gas tank costs about €28.59, representing an increase of more than €5 compared to the previous month”, says in a press release.

José Pacheco, parliamentary leader and party leader, believes that this situation “is another burden for thousands of Azoreans who are already struggling to bear the essential expenses”.

“The problem is that prices continue to rise, but wages and pensions do not follow these increases,” José Pacheco said.

The regional leader expresses particular concern for pensioners, large families and workers with lower incomes, who “end up feeling more intensely the consequences of these worsenings”.

José Pacheco believes that the situation requires particular attention from the Regional Government, arguing that measures should be assessed to mitigate the impact of increases in essential goods on the disposable income of households.

The leader also warns that these increases do not only affect the most economically vulnerable households, “also reaching a middle class that has been losing purchasing power”.
