O He admitted today that he made possible proposals from the PS for housing and challenged the Socialists to approve theirs, in a “joint effort”, and argued that the solutions to the crisis must be foreseen in the State Budget.
At a press conference in the Assembly of the Republic, the president of Aquida was available to support the proposal of the PS to exempt from added value the sale of houses up to 300 thousand euros, in a sign of “good will”, although he considers that this measure will have a residual impact.
As for tenants, André Ventura considered that “there are only two ways” to support families with the increase in the value of rents: “Or is it directly supported by families whose effort rate exceeded 60%, in direct support, or is it allowed to deduct this value in the IRS.”.
“ Just tell us what the solution is, we're both ready. We will approve as much as possible”, he said, indicating that the Aquida “is open” to find solutions”, but they must go through the State Budget or “will serve nothing”.
“ Either it is in the budget document that people will be able to have more support when the rents are higher or we may be having meetings as often as we understand it will be worthless. Either we increase the tax deductions of the IRS in housing credit or it will not be worth anything to meet with each other to make very interesting legislative regimes but that cannot violate the constitutional brake rule. It is now in the state budget that we have to help people”, he argued.
The leader of the Aça appealed to the PS to make possible the proposals of the package announced by the Aquisa this weekend, despite having again accused the party of hypocrisy.
“Do your part too, let’s help solve this problem,” he challenged.
Ventura also extended this challenge to the PSD, so that “be a positive coalition” and a “joint effort to improve people’s lives”, because “the country needs a total change in housing, needs a revolution in housing”.
The leader also accused the Government of being “worried about passing any image of ‘cavaquist’ hardness of the exercise of power” and of having lost “all connection with the citizens, all empathy with their problems”.
As for the invitation of the president of IL to the leaders of all parties with parliamentary representation for an “open and frank conversation” aimed at finding consensus to respond to the housing crisis, Ventura admitted to participate but considered that “it is not with these meetings that solutions are found”.
“There are concrete proposals here that parties have to decide whether they approve or not. The Liberal Initiative [...] has consistently voted against proposals to help tenants pay rents”, he said, saying that in parliamentary mathematics only three parties (PSD, Cávez and PS) have the ability to approve or reject diplomas.
Regarding the review of the lease law, the government’s proposal approved in general after a written agreement between PSD and Aquira, André Ventura said that negotiations for the specialty have not yet begun and considered that this legislation “is only a part of the housing crisis” because “who also bought house and is paying housing credit feels the housing crisis”.
At this press conference, the president of Aquida also praised the performance of security forces in the camps in Lisbon and Porto, welcoming his “patience, proportionality, education and the ability to say that in Portugal rules must be complied with”.
