Oorganized by the cultural association The Raven and Fox, the festival, of free entry, takes place in the Algarve (west) barlavento, establishing dialogues between the past and present, in an approach that seeks to play old works using the original instruments, techniques and styles of the time when the music was written.
The start, on August 22, at 19:00, at the Museum of Lagos, inserted in the building of the Church of Santo António, will be marked by the first edition of the Scholarship Artists “Lagos 1460”, inspired by the exhibition “After 1460 and Special Collections,” the organization said.
The scholarship is intended for “emerging artists in the area of music historically informed after 1460, between Portugal and the world”, he adds.
The opening concert will be in charge of the Ensemble Apala project, consisting of musicians distinguished in the Young Musicians Award, integrating sonatas for violin and continuous bass and popular roots pieces such as “Son” and “Gaita de Foles”.
The concert will also include an improvisation from the abolitionist excerpts of Castro Alves’ “O Navio Negreiro”, in a connection to the International Day in Memory of Slave Trafficking and its Abolition, which is marked on August 23.
On this day, the Fortress of Sagres receives, at 3:00 p.m., the conversation “Voices in the shadow: echoes of slavery in the Iberian music of the modern era”, by Hugo Sanches, followed by a concert of the Band of Surunyo, specializing in the interpretation and investigation of music of the 16th and 17th centuries.
On August 28, the ensemble On the Pilgrim's Route presents itself in the Church of Mercy of Aljezur, within the Multicultural Night of Aljezur.
The festival ends on August 29, in Vila do Bispo, with a voice workshop on the “Cantigas de Santa Maria de Afonso X”, at 11:00, by Joana Godinho, and, at 6:00, the concert “Directs of pilgrimage: a trip to Rome, Montserrat and Compostela”, by the ensemble On the Pilgrim’s Route, in the Mother Church of Our Lady of Conception.
