CP – Comboios Portugal is conducting connectivity tests with Starlink, by Elon Musk, to improve the Internet at Alfa Pendular, today announced the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing.

In a statement, the ministry points out that CP “is conducting experimental satellite connectivity tests on one of the Alfa Pendular trains with a view to providing faster and more reliable Wi-Fi service on board during the journey.”.
The technology uses satellite communication antennas in addition to the current on-board communications system, which is supported by national mobile networks, it advances.
“ The solution makes it possible to strengthen the internet connection in areas where mobile coverage is more limited, significantly improving the digital experience of passengers on board,” the ministry continues.
The pilot project “allows to collect technical and operational indicators to assess the stability of the solution at the level of coverage, performance and effective service quality” and “is using Starlink technology”, which was installed in one of the compositions of Alfa Pendular.
“ A stable, reliable and quality Wi-Fi throughout the journey will be a reality because people have to be at the heart of mobility policy. It is undoubtedly another strong incentive for the Portuguese to use public transport”, says the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Miguel Pinto Luz, quoted in a statement.
