O cEO of the CTT – Post Office of Portugal, Guy Pacheco, today defended in parliament the company's lockers as a way to accelerate deliveries in the autonomous regions, still seeing with good eyes the contractualization of a cargo plane.

At a hearing in the Committee on Infrastructure, Mobility and Housing on deliveries in the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores, Guy Pacheco admitted that the TTCs are having difficulties mainly for two reasons.

“The first is the subject of connecting flights and transport between continent and islands, and then a topic that is more cross-country, but that in the autonomous regions also happens with some dimension, which is full employment and our difficulty in hiring to face temporary failures,” he said.

Guy Pacheco said that in both Madeira and the island of São Jorge there have been “many unforeseen lows” and “some difficulty in restoring this human capacity”.

The CTT executive president explained that the company is investing more in lockers and believes that they can be “a more expeditious alternative to solving the issues of delivery time”.

“ The delivery in lockers is a more economical delivery, also for online stores and, therefore, this can be a factor for solving this theme ", admitted.

Still, he identified “the most structural theme” of transport capacity for the islands.

“There are capacity limitations that affect us and the economy in general of the autonomous regions. It is a subject that continues to worry us and we think that, if resolved, it could improve the conditions of access”, he noted, adding that the company has worked with all the operators who provide this service.

Guy Pacheco pointed out that the planes today favor passengers and that the cargo available ends up being allocated to the post office, ending orders “within a boat”.

With the reduction of the periodicity of delivery, this also has an impact on the logistics upon the arrival of the boat, since it arrives to the workers, in one day, “work that should be a week”.

For this, he again stressed the capacity of lockers, which, he believes, can contribute to “align this curve”.

Asked by the Socialist Party whether the CTTs would see with good eyes the state contract of a cargo plane, Guy Pacheco recognized that it would be good not only for the postal order, but for the economy of all islands.

“I would say that companies operating with islands and islands to the mainland would obviously also see this freighter with good eyes. It is not just a topic of logistics industry, I would say it is a theme of the whole economy ", reinforced.

The CTT executive president also addressed a failure that involved lockers in the Azores and affected more than 100 customers by the end of 2025.

“ During the end of last year there were 10 of these lockers that had wrongly configured the address of the continent and what affected during this period 112 customers who saw the ‘sites’ deliver their orders on the continent and therefore any possible ‘geoblocking’ addiction that existed was eliminated by this route”, he pointed out.

Guy Pacheco stressed that this failure affected 112 customers in a universe of 6,600 who use this service.
