A NAV Portugal inaugurated today the new Torre de Control do Aerodromo Municipal de Cascais, an investment of 5.4 million euros aimed at enhancing air traffic safety and capacity.
In a statement, the company responsible for air navigation services in Portugal states that the new tower is equipped with state-of-the-art technology systems and was designed to respond to the growth of aviation activity at that aerodrome.
According to NAV Portugal, the infrastructure replaces the previous control tower, which had limitations on the space available for the installation of new equipment and adaptation to future operational needs.
At 28.5 meters high, the new tower offers “better visibility conditions on the runway and adjacent areas”, allowing “more efficient management” of air operations.
The company points out that the building now has systems such as the automatic terminal information service (ATIS), the TWRATM flight plan management system and contingency solutions for radio and radar, and also has an additional operational position capable of assuming any function of the tower in case of need.
In addition to the technological component, the building includes new workers support spaces, such as a rest room, a training room and meeting areas, as well as “more ergonomic operational positions”.
Cited in the statement, the mayor of Cascais stated that the work represents “an important investment in the modernization of the Cascais Aerodrome”, highlighting the cooperation between the municipality and NAV Portugal to improve the operating conditions of the infrastructure.
In turn, the chairman of the Board of Directors of NAV Portugal, Pedro Ângelo considered that the new tower constitutes “a concrete investment in security, technological modernization and working conditions” of NAV Portugal teams, adding that it is the first of a new generation of control towers of the company.
The new infrastructure is part of a modernization plan for NAV Portugal, which also provides for interventions in Lisbon and Madeira.
The inauguration comes in a context of growth of executive aviation in Cascais.
According to the statement, the aerodrome recorded in 2025 a total of 2,573 movements in this segment, the highest value ever and twice as high as in 2019.
The company has advanced that it is completing the validation of the systems and the preparation of the teams, and the entry into full operation of the new tower is dependent on the completion of that process and on the confirmation of all the necessary technical and operational conditions.
