Dezenas of protesters gathered today in vigil at the police station of the PSP of Heroism, where the seven arrested were taken following the police charge in the square D. João I, protected by the intervention body.
Like last week, after another police charge, today the protesters also moved to the 3rd precinct, next to the Heroism metro station, for a vigil by the detainees, who expect them to be released soon.
The participants were “received”, starting at 07:45, by a dozen members of the Special Police Unit, who positioned themselves at the door and along the facade, withdrawing from the walk on the side of the police station some protesters and forcing them to move to opposite ride.
The appearance of police forces was received with protests and cries of “shame”.
According to the organization, in a preliminary report released around 5:45 p.m., 35 minor and three serious injuries of the police load on the protesters resulted, in addition to seven detainees, confirmed by one of the lawyers of the movement, Tiago Machado.
The police carried on the protesters who had once again raised the camp in Praça D. João I, where since October 10 there has been a protest in favor of the right to housing, destroying the camp and pushing away the gifts.
Later, next to the House of Porto, the protesters were the target of a new load, and already in the wake in Heroism emerged elements of the intervention body at the door of the police station, for now without action.
During the night, the PSP and the protesters talked about the stay in square D. João I, with the police calling for the tents to be dismantled, a condition that would allow them to stay overnight. The gifts rejected the dismantling of the tents.
At 3:50 p.m., a subintendent of the PSP talked to the lawyer of the movement, Tiago Machado, about the legal foundations of the intervention.
The protestors demand the reversal of the new Rent Act, the end of demolitions and evictions without alternative housing, a brake on housing purchase by real estate funds, the increase in public housing, the recovery of vacant buildings for housing purposes and “truely accessible” ceilings to income.
