Azores Disability assistance
Os Azores now have the Model Support for Independent Life Program (MAVI), which defines assistance to people with disabilities, as well as the operating rules of the Support Centers for Independent Life (CAVI).
The MAVI, according to the regional legislative decree published today in Diário da República, is realized through “the provision of a personal assistance service to support the person with disabilities or disabilities”, aiming to carry out activities that, “because of the limitations arising from the interaction with the conditions of the environment, cannot perform on its own”.
The programme will ensure the provision of personal assistance on all islands of the archipelago, including rural areas and isolated communities, the distribution of resources, schedules and staff, considering the geographical dispersion, the means of transport available and the accessibility of inter-lands, according to the diploma.
For more than six months, residents in the Autonomous Region of the Azores who have a disability or disability confirmed by a medical certificate of multiple disabilities or a disabled card of the armed forces, with a disability of 60 % or more and of 14 years of age or older, shall be addressed to the staff.
The programme is also aimed at people with intellectual disabilities, mental illness or autism spectrum disorder, aged 14 years or older, who need support to continue their lives independently.
The diploma includes, among other measures, support in the fields of hygiene, food, maintenance of health and personal care, home care and travel.
The CAVI is the management structure of the personal assistance service, provided by independent life support models, responsible for providing personal assistance to persons with disabilities or disabilities, as set out in the diploma.
Only non-profit entities with proven experience in the area of disability or social inclusion may be accredited as CAVI and the participation of persons with disabilities or their representative organisations in defining and monitoring the activity carried out by CAVI should be ensured.
Also in Diário da República, the diploma approving the multiannual framework for budget programming was published today, containing the expenditure limits for the period 2027 to 2030, “of the entire consolidation perimeter of the regional public administration”.
