ANDthese techniques, supported in a statement by the Islamic Resistance Movement, would have caused hundreds of collateral victims in some attacks.

“NAZA”, the Hebrew acronym used by the army to refer to collateral damage, is based on 24 anonymous testimonies of army members and intelligence services and questions Israel’s strategy in the Gaza Strip and practices that led to large-scale civilian casualties.

The Palestinian Islamist group pointed out that “the world saw with great anger what was revealed in the documentary ‘NAZA’”, before stressing that “the importance of the testimonies derives from the fact that they were carried out by people working within the Army and the Zionist security apparatus and participated in surveillance and attack systems”.

“ This requires a serious and independent international investigation, as well as documenting these testimonies in investigations related to war crimes and ethnic cleansing committed against civilians in the Gaza Strip,” Hamas said, stressing that the 25-minute ovation received by the documentary at the Venice Film Festival, where he won the Special Jury Prize on Thursday, “reflects the great impact that the testimonies had”.

Thus, he stressed “the importance of the role of journalism and documentary cinema in revealing the facts and breaking Zionist attempts at denial and misinformation”, as well as the relevance that this type of investigation has “in the time to present before global public opinion the suffering of victims”.

Therefore, Hamas asked the International Criminal Court (ICC), the United Nations and human rights organisations to “document the testimonies and information contained in the film to use them in the investigation and accountability processes to confirm the crimes of ethnic extermination and cleansing committed by the Zionist Army of occupation”.

“What ‘NAZA’ has revealed,” Hamas continues, “must not be just material for viewing and showing sympathy, but an additional incentive to research and accountability, justice for victims and to ensure that those responsible for war crimes, genocide and violations do not escape accountability.”.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized the directors of ‘NAZA’ for their “incitement of anti-Semitic hatred” that he considers “intolerant” for coming from Israeli citizens, while the chief of the Israeli Armed Forces’ General Staff, Eyal Zamir, ordered the maximum military legal officer to study the possibility of initiating legal actions against the authors of the documentary.

“ We are fighting the global incitement to anti-Semite hatred, but when it comes from within, from among us, it is simply intolerable,” Netanyahu said, saying that “the two Israeli directors portray Israel’s Defense Forces as war criminals and are applauded at the Venice Festival.”.

In the video message, Netanyahu associated the documentary with statements by former general and current leader of the Democratic opposition party, Yair Golan, when last year he said Israel “is killing babies in Gaza as a ‘hobby’.”.

The Prime Minister also sought to link the film to the Yashar party, led by the former commander of the Gadi Eisenkot army, stating that he has an electoral agreement with Yair Golan for the legislatures scheduled for October 27.

Eisenkot, the main opponent of the Netanyahu Likud and who has emerged in the leadership of the general polls, criticized the documentary on Sunday, commenting that “NAZA” offers a “distorted and unilateral” image of the conflict in the Palestinian enclave and harms Israeli soldiers.

In 80 minutes, ‘NAZA’ analyzes Israel’s campaign of systematic attacks on the Palestinian enclave through the testimony of 24 intelligence officers and soldiers detailing telephone espionage strategies and artificial intelligence systems to identify targets.

According to their directors, this mechanism acts as a large-scale system that deliberately causes the death of hundreds of civilian collateral victims in a single attack.
