Jdid you happen to get out of bed in the morning and feel a sharp pain in your feet? Look, it's a common thing and it may be a health problem that may need medical attention. If it turns out to be something you miss, see what's at stake and whether or not it can be something worrying.
From the feet in the morning? Here's the explanation
To Metro newspaper podiatrist Marion Yau of Harley Street explained what this pain in the feet could mean as soon as she wakes up and gets out of bed. The truth is, it could be something called plantar fasciitis.
This problem affects a tissue zone in the plant of the foot from the heel bone to the base of the feet. “ When this tissue becomes overloaded or begins to rupture, it causes pain, usually in the heel area” starts with the expert. It may be confused with inflammation, but it turns out to be something that goes beyond that.
“It is the degeneration or rupture of collagen fibers in the plantar fascia” continues. There may be several factors that lead to this problem. “The fact that the air with the foot putting too much pressure on the inside is one of the reasons. The arch ends up flattening and stretching such a muscle.”
Diagnosis
Diagnosing this problem can be complicated as there are not so many warning signs. “Pain tends to be more common in the heel, but as the plantar fascia travels throughout the extension of the foot, it can feel it at any point, from the arch and towards the foot plant.”
One of the main factors is the pain you feel when you wake up. “The pain is worse in the first steps in the morning or after a sitting period, and relieves after a few minutes of walking,” continues Marion Yau.
But is there any reason why this pain is stronger in the morning? “When sleeping, the foot naturally points down, which keeps the plant fascia in a shortened and contracted position for several hours. When you have to wake up, that fabric is already considerably tougher. When you put your foot on the ground, the fascia is suddenly stretched out, it comes out of the short state and goes into a full stretch to support the weight of the body. This is what causes that acute pain, as if it were stepping on glass.”
Treatment and prevention
“ The most effective treatment is rest with relief of the load on the feet. Most cases are treated with non-surgical medical treatments and surgery is reserved for situations in which, despite the treatments, satisfactory results are not obtained after one year of the beginning of the complaints”, says the CUF health network website.
As a form of prevention, recommend heating before the onset of physical activities, as well as controlling excessive effort and overload. Also maintaining a healthy weight helps reduce pressure on the heel area.
