Sand is minimally aware of the football video game panorama is likely to remember the rivalry between “FIFA”, EA Sports, and “Pro Evolution Soccer” (known as “PS”), Konami. There was a time when fans of each of these games were almost like tribes, such was not the way they defended these franchises but, the truth is, since then much has changed.
Meanwhile, we have seen the extinction of “ES” and Konami’s decision to replace it with a free version called “eFootball”, with EA Sports getting practically the hegemony of virtual football video games.
However, far goes the time when the games of this producer were called “FIFA”, with the franchise being today known as “EA Sports FC”.
However, it seems that EA Sports will soon be able to win a heavy competitor in the fight for the hearts of those passionate about virtual football. This is because 2K Games appears to have formed a new studio that is allegedly dedicated to the development of a new football game. But let's get down to business.
As The Verge reports, 2K Games announced through a social network publication LinkedIn the creation of a new studio with the name Small Axe Studios – noting that it will be based in Vancouver, Canada, and dedicated to the development of the “next successful sports franchise” of 2K Games.
Remember that 2K Games is responsible for other successful video games franchises, such as “WWE 2K”, “GPA Tour 2K” and, more importantly, “NBA 2K”. It is not known whether this studio will be dedicated to the development of a football game but, given that the image of the studio resembles that of a club emblem, it is speculated that this is really the objective of the company.
Another sign that this Small Axe Studios will be dedicated to the creation of a new virtual football franchise is in the previous professional experiences of some of the members – with many having already passed the franchise “FIFA”. Among them is studio manager Aaron McHardy, who has also led the development of the EA Sports series.
It is unlikely that we will have any news in the coming days about what is on the horizon of Small Axe Studios, but for the time being the signs of increased competition for “EA Sports FC” should be understood with optimism by the football aficionados.
